As a highlight of the 2017-2018 season, Chamber Music Charleston (CMC) is pleased to announce a thrilling collaboration with the Música en Segura Festival in Spain. Three of the festival’s guest artists will perform in Charleston alongside our musicians at the Dock Street Theatre on March 20, 2018. Then, Chamber Music Charleston musicians will participate in the Música en Segura’s May 2018 Festival, taking place in the charming Spanish villiage of Segura de la Sierra deep in the Segura and Cazorla National Park.
CMC board member Nelson Hicks has graciously volunteered to assist in the coordination of travel for CMC supporters and fans who are interested traveling to Spain for the performances in May.
Below you will find a wealth of information related to this trip. If you are interested in learning more and joining us on this adventure, please contact Nelson Hicks at email@example.com before September 1, 2017. There is limited housing in the village, and it is important to make reservations early.
With a population of only 140, the town of Segura de la Sierra (in Jaén, Andalusia) preserves the stunning beauty of a village from a time long ago. For five days in May, Segura is the meeting spot for a combination of charismatic artists and international audiences. The festival’s bold and innovative programming crosses over traditional genre divisions and formats to focus on the audience enjoyment of live music in historic and outdoors locations.
Visitors will be able to enjoy a varied programme over several days that combines pieces from the great classics such as Mozart and Beethoven, alongside others by some of the best contemporary musicians. The concerts are held in special locations such as Segura Castle or the medieval chapel.
Flamenco evenings, accordion recitals… all to the backdrop of the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas Nature Reserve and the charming town of Segura de la Sierra with its narrow whitewashed streets and flower-filled balconies.
May 16 to 20, 2018. First concert will be May 16 at 7:30pm and the last one on May 20 at 6pm. There will be around 12 concerts. The dates and times of the specific concerts CMC will participate in will be announced in the Fall.
The recommended arrival airport is Madrid Barajas, but one could also fly to Granada to visit that wonderful city.
